Tobias Feldmann plays Bartok, Beethoven, Waxman and Ysaye

I discovered Tobias with this recording and invited him to the Sociedad Filarmónica de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the 15 of November 2021, moment when I discovered another exceptional musician: pianist Yekwon Sunwoo.


A prize winner of the International Queen Elisabeth Competition, German Music Competition and Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition, recent concerto highlights for Tobias have included performances with Minnesota Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, WDR Sinfonieorchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Orquestra Simfonica de Barcelona, BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bournemouth Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Resonanz, Moscow State Symphony, Brussels Philharmonic, Utah Symphony, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec; collaborating with Nathalie Stutzmann, David Afkham, Joana Mallwitz, Thomas Guggeis, John Storgårds, Nicholas Collon, Lorenzo Viotti, Reinhard Goebel, Fabien Gabel  and Marin Alsop amongst others.


An avid chamber musician, Tobias has performed at the Wiener Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Vinterfest, Rheingau and Lockenhaus festivals, partnering with Martin Helmchen, Timothy Ridout, Kian Soltani, Christian Tetzlaff, Nicolas Altstaedt, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Tabea Zimmermann in addition to regular trio performances with Lise Berthaud and Julian Steckel.

Nicolai Gedda - Birthday 100th anniversary

100 years ago one of the greatest tenors was born in Stockholm, Nicolai Gedda. He is, with the permission of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, the most recorded opera singer, with celebrated recordings through the pass of time. Bach's Matthew's Passion under Klemperer, Verdi's Requiem under Giulini, Mozart's Requiem with Barenboim, Berlioz's Damnation under Pretre... as well as French, Italian, German, Russian songs on discs. Among his almost 100 opera recordings very few people know that he also recorded extracts, and here it is a very rare one, Puccini's Butterfly in German with Anneliese Rothenberger, Hermann Prey and Siegliende Wagner conducted by Giuseppe Patané. The recording sessions took place at the Grunewaldkirche in Berlin from the 30 of October to the 4 of September in 1966 for EMI/Electrola. Here you can hear Gedda as you never heard him before. Leontina Vaduva Opera Arias

Leontina Vaduva was born in the Romanian city of Rosiile. She attended the Bucharest Conservatory where she studied with Ileana Cotrubas, debuting the role of Manon with the Toulouse Opera in 1987. She received the Lawrence Olivier Opera Award for her marvelous performance of Juliette in Gounod's Romeo et Juliette at Covent Garden in 1994. Her discography includes Rigoletto, Les contes d'Hoffmann and La Bohème. Verdi Otello with Giuseppe Giacomini, Margaret Price and Matteo Manuguerra

This 1991 live recording of Verdi's Otello under Alain Lombard counts with the great Giuseppe Giacomini in the leading role singing at his best, Margaret Price, close to her retirement, as Desdemona, and Matteo Manuguerra creating a magnificent Iago. The problem of this production is the baton of maestro Lombard, unconnected with what is happening on stage and just focused on sounding forte, keeping no attention to the singers. Alain Lombard never has been a conductor that has been celebrated, correct me if I'm wrong, please.
