Downloading

To create a blog to share recordings is an act of kindness and effort. It is not as simple as upload it and voilà! Most of the time is someone that has been all the life collecting records and some of them are really difficult to find on the net, few of them has a story behind. In my particular case I have been collecting records since I was a kid because of my mother taught me the value of the vinyls we had at home, LPs that I conserve in my home like a golden treasure.  Since then I have been buying and collecting recordings of all kind: studio, live, radio on vinyls, CDs, DVDs, VHS, MiniDiscs and even tapes. Nowadays we have hard discs and clouds to save them. Sharing a recording means you have a copy and you have ripped it, scanned the covers, uploaded to a server and posted in a blog. It is not a kind of magic! It means money, time and the willingness to share it. Unfortunately not everyone sees this process like that so from now on if you want to download one of the recording...

Matthew Polenzani live at the Verbier Festival

Imagen
The first time I've ever heard tenor Matthew Polenzani was ending 2004 at my friend's apartment Lucy Arner in New York, where I did copy her disc with one of those devices that made it in real time. Years later I could invite him for a recital in Telde with Julius Drake. Matthew's voice is not "espectacular" like Pavarotti's, Corelli's, Bergonzi's... but what makes him special, very unique, is the way he sings: sensitive, exquisite, passionate. For more info about him and his wonderful career visit his website matthewpolenzani.com If you want this recording send me an email to canariasesmusica@gmail.com and I will send you the link.

John-Henry Crawfod - A new young talent to discover

Imagen
Born in the small Louisiana city of Shreveport, John-Henry Crawford was accepted at age 15 into the legendary Curtis Institute of Music where he served as principal cellist of the Curtis Orchestra. He went to complete an Artist Diploma at the Manhattan Music School, a Master of Music at The Juilliard School and pursue further studies in Chicago. I discovered him thanks to this beautiful recording and invited him to play for the Sociedad Filarmónica de Las Palmas and for the city of Telde. Extraordinary musician and human being. Nicolai Gedda - Birthday 100th anniversary

Imagen
100 years ago one of the greatest tenors was born in Stockholm, Nicolai Gedda. He is, with the permission of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, the most recorded opera singer, with celebrated recordings through the pass of time. Bach's Matthew's Passion under Klemperer, Verdi's Requiem under Giulini, Mozart's Requiem with Barenboim, Berlioz's Damnation under Pretre... as well as French, Italian, German, Russian songs on discs. Among his almost 100 opera recordings very few people know that he also recorded extracts, and here it is a very rare one, Puccini's Butterfly in German with Anneliese Rothenberger, Hermann Prey and Siegliende Wagner conducted by Giuseppe Patané. The recording sessions took place at the Grunewaldkirche in Berlin from the 30 of October to the 4 of September in 1966 for EMI/Electrola. Here you can hear Gedda as you never heard him before. Patané conducts the Ochester der Deutschen Oper Berlin and the RIAS-Kammerchor: a luxury.  If you want this recor...

Verdi Otello with Giuseppe Giacomini, Margaret Price and Matteo Manuguerra

Imagen
This 1991 live recording of Verdi's Otello under Alain Lombard counts with the great Giuseppe Giacomini in the leading role singing at his best, Margaret Price, close to her retirement, as Desdemona, and Matteo Manuguerra creating a magnificent Iago. The problem of this production is the baton of maestro Lombard, unconnected with what is happening on stage and just focused on sounding forte, keeping no attention to the singers. Alain Lombard never has been a conductor that has been celebrated, correct me if I'm wrong, please. Duets by Schubert with Janet Baker and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau

Imagen
This is one of my favorite recordings ever. Recorded in 1973 with Gerald Moore at the piano and with the magnificent RIAS Kammerchor these nine Lieder were composed to be sung on evenings between friends.  Even today these duets remain largely unknown, music treasures hidden to the large audiences. Later on they would be joined by soprano Elly Amelling and tenor Peter Schreier to record the trios and quartets, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau would finished the complete Lieder by Schubert. Timothy Ridout

Imagen
Every music lover knows the name of Timothy Ridout today. He is simply spectacular, one of those very few musicians that are able to create an incredible atmosphere when they are on the stage. I invited him to play for the Sociedad Filarmónica de Las Palmas on the 8 of March, 2023. He came with another incredible artists named James Baillieu, to play a program mostly dedicated to the female composer with works by Rebecca Clarke, Clara Schumann and Ernst Bloch.  I discovered him thanks to this recording with the complete works for Viola by Henri Vieuxtemps where he is accompanied by Ke Ma at the piano. He records for great labels as Warner/Erato, Harmonia Mundi, Chandos, Hyperion...  If you want this recording send me an email to canariasesmusica@gmail.com and I will send you the link.

Aylen Pritchin, Alexander Buzlov & Lukas Geniusas

Imagen
I've always loved to listen to young musicians because they deserve an opportunity, and to be honest, I am tired of watching the same artists recording day after day and repeating the same works so it is refreshing to discover new names with colosal talent out there. It was this fantastic recording that introduced me to these fantastic musicians: Aylen, Alexander and Lukas. I had the opportunity to invite Aylen and Lukas to play together for the Sociedad Filarmónica de Las Palmas on the 7 of March, 2022. In this recording they play works by Shostakovich, Weinberg and Ravel. Enjoy it! If you want this recording send me an email to canariasesmusica@gmail.com and I will send you the link.

Tobias Feldmann plays Bartok, Beethoven, Waxman and Ysaye

Imagen
I discovered Tobias with this recording and invited him to the Sociedad Filarmónica de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the 15 of November 2021, moment when I discovered another exceptional musician: pianist Yekwon Sunwoo. A prize winner of the International Queen Elisabeth Competition, German Music Competition and Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition, recent concerto highlights for Tobias have included performances with Minnesota Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, WDR Sinfonieorchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Orquestra Simfonica de Barcelona, BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bournemouth Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Resonanz, Moscow State Symphony, Brussels Philharmonic, Utah Symphony, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec; collaborating with Nathalie Stutzmann, David Afkham, Joana Mallwitz, Thomas Guggeis, John Storgårds, Nicholas Collon, Lorenzo Viotti, Reinhard Goebel, Fabi...

Les pecheurs de perles by Alfredo Kraus and Adriana Maliponte

Imagen
I grow up listening to this beautiful set that my mother bought in vinyl. In my opinion Kraus is the only one that makes justice to the role. The beauty of his tone when he was young is out of doubt and thanks to him we have this incredible recording made by his own label, Carrillon. The sound is a bit crispy and the stereo is pretty weird with each singer singing in different channels. I tried converting the recording to mono and it sounds much better. Adriana Maliponte is exquisite as always, Sesto Bruscantini deserved more attention as well as Spanish baritone Antonio Campó. Carlo Felice Cillario was just reliable. Bizet's work on recording: Gedda and Micheau under Dervaux (very nice one), Cotrubas and Vanzo with Pretre, Angelici and Legay conducted by Cluytens, Aler and Hendricks under Plasson (curiously all of them for EMI), Albelo and Rancatore with the direction of Daniel Oren, the most recent with Dubois and Fuchs conducted by Alexander Bloch (very nice set too) and three p...

Eugenia Moldoveanu grew up in Azuga. From the age of 7 she studied piano with Aurel Bobescu, the eldest of the Bobescu brothers. Between 1963 and 1968 she studied singing at the Conservatory of Music in Bucharest. In 1968 she won the first prize at the Sofia competition and was immediately hired by the National Opera in Bucharest where she made her debut singing Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni. In 1970 she won the first prize at the "G. Enescu" International Competitions in Bucharest and in Toulouse in France. In 1973 she won the grand prize at the Madama Butterfly competition in Tokyo, a prize she received from Maria Callas, president of the jury.
